DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S MINISTRY JOB DESCRIPTION
(BIRTH – 5TH GRADE)
JOB SUMMARY
The Director will nurture the current children’s programs, guide the development of new programs, and champion the growth of the children’s ministry.

Education, Experience & Skill Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or related field preferred
- Experience in growing a children’s ministry in a church setting
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills
- Works well with children and within a church team
- Understanding of child development and family dynamics
- Annual participation in relevant and approved continuing education
Major Responsibilities – Ministry
- Create and nurture a safe and welcoming environment for children to experience the love of God and build relationships with others
- Nurture the development of existing children’s programs (e.g. Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Children’s Summer Programs, etc.) and guide the development of new initiatives
- Support parents in the spiritual formation of their children and help them connect with others in our church family
- Guide the selection of developmentally-appropriate curriculum for programs
- Develop events and programs to reach new children and families in the community with specific emphasis towards the Global Outreach Charter Academy next door.
- Develop service and mission experiences for children and their families
- Nurture relationships with ministry leaders and encourage opportunities for intergenerational activities and children’s ministry involvement
Major Responsibilities – Management
- Make daily ministry and administrative decisions regarding children’s ministry
- Oversee the timely and accurate entry of participant (volunteers and children) information into database
- Oversee the budget process and expenditures related to the children’s ministry
- Implement the recruiting, training, and evaluation of the children’s ministry volunteer team
- Develop and maintain a children’s ministry rolling annual calendar.
- Maintain open lines of communication with children’s ministry families, church community, and other ministries (publicity, presentations, announcements, newsletters, electronic reminders, etc.)
- Ensure all Child Protection Policy guidelines are followed with training sessions for volunteers
- Attend weekly staff meetings to communicate and coordinate children’s ministry activities.
- Engage in additional duties as needed or directed pertinent to the position
- Give assistance to the volunteer leaders of the special needs class
- Oversee the Nursery Director.
- Maintain Children’s Tags and oversee new tags/pictures weekly.
